'The Miracle Of Asia' (Part 1) - Singapore Documentary
The Miracle Of Asia - Part 1 of 2 Directed by James Wiffen This is a documentary about Singapore, a country that has risen from a poor developing country, to an economic giant, in a little over 50 years. The main focus of the documentary is the people, both native Singaporeans, and also foreign workers who have relocated there, as these have been the key to the country's success. Singapore is a melting pot of different cultures, and this is highlighted in the film, by focusing on people from all nationalities, and all walks of life, and how they work together in unity, and harmony. This was made as a final year project on the TV Production course at Bournemouth University. Part 2: www.youtube.com

Develop or Die 1 of 6 - Asia's Growing Tigers - BBC Environmental Documentary, recorded 07.02.2010 Sustainable Development has become the mantra of the 21st Century. No other concept has had a profound impact on institutional decision-making; forcing governments to change policies and companies to re-think how they do business. First commissioned for the BBC this series is made up of two episodes filmed on location in India, China, Vietnam and Malaysia and the third programme an Outside Broadcast debate from Mumbai (Bombay). Episode 2 -- Asia's growing tigers In Vietnam we look at the country's burgeoning tourism industry, already coming under pressure not to develop unsustainably like its neighbour Thailand. We look at agriculture and in particular the multi-billion dollar palm oil business in Malaysia. The crop creates global controversy. Conservation versus economic development, using it for food or for fuel, pitting the livelihoods of indigenous people against the demands of consumers in the West, the crop finds itself at the nexus of all these conflicts and challenges. For more information, see www.fbcmedia.com . This series looks at the challenges now facing Asia; how to develop their economies whilst at the same time handling the growing pressure - mainly from the developed world - to protect the environment, combat pollution and deal with climate change. From the skyscrapers of Hong Kong to the ransacked streets of Jakarta, the Asian Renaissance is over. Construction has stopped, unemployment has risen, food prices and inflation have soared. Throughout the 90's the whole region pursued unchecked economic growth and first world status. But Asia's economic miracle was built on a shaky foundation. Behind the massive expansion lurked political values from the Middle Ages. The World Bank President sums the boom up: 'it had over-lending, corruption, cronyism, banks lending to its shareholders. Now, there's a comeuppance.' Indonesia's financial ruin was the catalyst for its social collapse. Suharto stands accused of plundering the nation's wealth, crushing those who protested. He ignored the extent of his country's economic crisis, and continued to reward his children and swarms of sycophants with unjust riches. But recent weeks saw Indonesians send their ruler a powerful message: the old values don't count. Almost like lightening, the world's second longest dictator stood down. The lost temples of India part 1 of 6 discovery channel documentary
The lost temples of India part 1 of 6 discovery channel documentary
The Mysteries of Asia three-part video series was originally produced for the Learning Channel. During this segment, historians and others examine temples built in India more than 1000 years ago. They remain quite intriguing, though today's tourists rarely visit them. Records reveal that trained elephants had to drag millions of stone blocks to help erect these structures. The program notes that due to the temples' size, the US Senate, Versailles, the Houses of Parliament, and St. Paul's Basilica in Rome could all fit within a single one of them. Michael Bell narrates as footage and animated maps are used to help viewers learn more about what these ancient structures look like and why they were built. Asia is a continent steeped in ancient cultures, religions, and buildings. In this intriguing program, we are transported to this exotic land and examine the mysteries behind some of the most fascinating structures found there. Southern India has the largest temple complexes ever built. In "Lost Temples of India", we examine these 1000-year-old temples adorned with intricate and beautiful sculptures. We learn how the kings used large herds of trained elephants to drag the millions of stone blocks into place and how these temples are virtually unknown and unvisited by Western tourists. Truth or fiction, the stories of Mysteries of Asia will amaze and delight.

Many people are unaware of the existence of populations of Jamaicans and Haitians of white European, Chinese, East Indian, and Middle Eastern descent, living in Jamaica and Haiti. These ethnic groups are diminishing in the West Indies, but have played very important roles in the history of these countries and their culture. People interviewed are from diverse backgrounds, including: celebrity, middle class, those with political goals, those who wish to affect their country in massive ways, and those who simply want to live their lives in the country they love. General reactions to white Jamaicans and white Haitians range from amazement to shock and disbelief, and, even to hostility. These reactions are followed by questions: Who are these people? How did they get here? What is their "story"? How do other Jamaicans and Haitians feel about ...
